Why We Rest in Hope

In light of what’s been happening around our country in the past days and weeks, we felt the need to spend time in prayer and ask God to work in specific ways. As a Collective, we focused each day last week praying for our hearts and for people. We wanted to compile these passages and prayers into one space and invite you to continue with us in prayer—God’s Word is packed full of both examples of how to pray and testimonies of God’s faithfulness to answer the requests of His people, over and over again. And so, we’re choosing to end this series focused on that faithfulness:

“For the word of the Lord is right, and all His work is trustworthy. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the Lord’s unfailing love. We wait for the Lord; He is our help and shield. For our hearts rejoice in Him because we trust in His holy name. May Your faithful love rest on us, Lord, for we put our hope in You.” Psalms 33:4-5, 20-22

Father, we rest in You. We praise You for Your unfailing love. Thank you that You are trustworthy. Our hearts rejoice in You; our hope is in You and only You.

You’ll find the compiled passages and prayers from the week below.

For the Brokenhearted

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18⠀

Lord, for those of us who are crushed in spirit, let us feel You near. And for those of us whose hearts feel calloused, Lord, break our hearts.

For Repentance

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

Acts 2:37-38

Lord, give us ears to hear, eyes to see, and lead us into repentance and salvation.

For the Oppressed

“For the High and Exalted One, who lives forever, whose name is holy, says this: ‘I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.’”

Isaiah 57:15

Lord, this is what You say You do, and so we pray: Jesus come and revive the broken souls among us. Revive the hearts of the oppressed. Let us lead the charge. Show us how we can be your heart here on earth to the oppressed around us.

For Conviction

"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Psalm 139:23-24

Lord, You know us inside and out; show us our motives and prejudices, our true selves, good and bad. Let us receive Your truth in Your grace and make us more like You.

For Wisdom

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without favoritism and hypocrisy.”

James 3:17

Father, we know that if we ask for wisdom, You give it abundantly. Give us Your wisdom, full of mercy and without hypocrisy. Give us eyes to see as You see.
